Freedom manifested in an unlikely way….

Being a modern person, in a modern world, I am prone to modern eating habits. The righteous knights of health, wielding their sharp leek katanas, triumphantly reigns over the world of food today.

Why eat soft wheat bread?? Why not coarse bread, filled to the brim with seeds and other goodies from the kingdom of good?”

They will say this, as we sneak through the aisles to stealthily remove a pack of buns, the good old kind, from its lonely seat amongst the more healthy options. We are marauders, bandits, outlaws even. Treated on par with people who murder and take children hostage.

Or maybe not completely, but somewhere along those exagarated lines, lies the hidden truth. The world has changed and we are all left facing a choice. Will we submit to the hipster way of life? Replace french fries and ketchup, with beans and vegetable stock? Will we take our final stand for defense of the chrome counter way of life, in an American style fast food place, or a neatly decorated sushi restaurant?

The choices facing the modern european today, closely resemble the choices of biblical times. Will you turn to god, enjoy eternal life, bask in the green glow of his eco friendly glory? Or will you stay in sodom and gommorah, attempting to enjoy your wicked way of life. Eating that last piece of satans back bacon, gazing, for the final time, at scandidly clad women desperately attempting to instill some sort of ease of passing. We all know it, we all don our panda skin slippers one last time, choke the last life out of our death producing, paper sticks of death and watch. Watch as the green god sends his arch angels to burn this final bastion of freedom and true individuality.

I usually then wake up and accept the paper cup of neon colored pills, from the friendly nurse, with the worried look. It may sound crazy, but am I that far off my mark?

Darkly Dreaming pt 2 – of lambs and Lecters..

Easter has come and gone. The magical rabbit, along with his suspiciously coloured eggs and hallmark friends, retreats, eluding the hunter for yet another season. We call off the hunt, we let our tired children rest, gather around the remnants of the feast table. We exchange worried looks as we browse through our accounts “Christmas is far off” one may say and rejoice, “but the summer is coming and so is our annual vacation”.

With a slight hint of blame in your eyes, you gaze at the door to the childrens rooms. Another year in the country side, weak cider and mild heat is, after all, better than two weeks in Hawaii, Cuba or even Europe. You say this, but we all know that you are lying…

Darkly Dreaming – Part 1 – Introductions

There are strange, complex and somewhat dark forces at work in any kitchen. Behind the glitz and glamour of any eatery, good or bad, you will find a sinister hierachy of working men and women, controlled by purpose. Whether it is to create food that will make angels weep, to get through the day while stashing as many hamburgers as possible, eluding capture, or simply to get by with the small thrills that comes from working a regular day job. The hierachy is put in place to inspire hope, hope that somehow the individual will get evaluated and promoted to a station above their current one, a station at which they can create even greater feats of culinary engineering, wield greater power and access a more impressive armory. Hope, based on devotion to a cause, be it an individual or a collective one, will create a willingness to commit and to push oneself harder, in an ever ongoing dash for perfection.

It will also create tension…

Hear ye, hear ye!

When beginning an endeavour. Any endeavour, be it climbing the white peaks of Everest, bringing new life into the world or simply doing a blog about cooking, that in turn is not very much about cooking at all, its generally a good idea to be well prepared.

I have found that in order to be great at something, the best idea is to throw preparations out of the window, watch them shatter as they hit the pavement below and laugh at those who shake their fists in contempt of this action, whilst they scream “You are a fool!!!”    You then close the window and start making magic happen.

Recipes, like interrogations, are an unpleasant things…

I am not much for recipes. Not much for writing them, attempting to explain whatever I do mean by “a bit of salt” or “you’ll know when it’s done”. I might even dare say, that I absolutely loathe the constant retracing of steps and meticolous measuring of every single ingredient, that seems to be a requirement for recipe books these days.

Ch.. ch.. cha.. changes…

So, it has come to this. Dearest friends of unknown face and stature. Dear followers, likers and others who view this blog for whatever reason. THIS! Is the beginning of something, slightly bigger…

I have a desire for things to look good, to indulge my creative side, whilst keeping it pleasing to the eye and my self proclaimed tendencies towards OCD. Therefore I have opened a brand new blog for the Darkly Dreaming series….

What will change? What will happen?? Will the world end??
